Ab-racadabra: 7 tips for a killer rig

Summer’s around the corner and we all know what that means… beach, bikinis and bronzed up babes! So, to help you stand tall and confident this summer, here are seven tips for strong cores and abs you’ll want to show off.

1. Eat clean
Food plays a bit part in your ab journey. So, if you eat food high in salt and sugar, you won’t get the results you want. The KIC meal plan is packed with quality protein for lean muscle mass, and fruit and veg for energy so you can smash your workouts.

2. Don’t just crunch
Okay, it’s time to bust the myth: simply doing 100 crunches a day won’t give you a flat tummy. You need to incorporate a range of exercises to burn belly fat and work those abdominal muscles. Our health and wellness program, KIC, has a different workout each day to ensure every muscle group gets some loving.

3. Run and box
So, what other workouts should you do? Let’s start with running. Running is an effective form of cardio that burns fat and revs up your metabolism. And when you add high knees and concentrate on your abs rather than your legs, you can strengthen your core for hot posture and definition. Boxing is also amazing for abs. It requires you to engage your core for stability and punching power so your abs will be pop, pop popping!

4. Drink water
Aim to drink at least 2 litres of water a day (especially when it’s hot). Not only will water help your skin glow, it will flush away any toxins to encourage a ripped core. We also suggest drinking green tea. It’s packed with antioxidants which help promote weight loss by boosting your body's ability to metabolise fat.

5. Set yourself a challenge
To fast-track your summer abs, set yourself a daily workout challenge – like, how long can you hold a plank for? Or how many burpees can you do in 60 seconds. Time yourself every day for week and see if you can smash day one’s time. We try and set a workout challenge each week in the KIC community and encourage each other to beat their PB.

6. Lose the booze
Alcohol is a recipe for disaster! (Well, if you want a flat tummy it is.) Alcohol is loaded with sugar and loves bellies. So, try and switch the vino for a mineral water and avoid unnecessary bloating. You’ll thank us later.

7. Fall in love with HIIT
We’ve save the best till last. If you haven’t heard of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) where have you been hiding? As the name suggests, HIIT will leave you huffing and puffing and loving life. We love it because it’s fast and uses every muscles group; quads, glutes, biceps, triceps and abs. Because if your core is ripped, you’ll want the butt to match.
